Women in Charge Network
Guidelines & Policy
March 27, 1993
--------------------------------
WinCNet is growing by leaps and bounds. In the beginning,
this net centered around the Women's Only conference, because it was
THE reason for creating this network. There was an unmet need for a
conference restricted to women only, and we responded and met that
need. However, as the months have progressed, we are finding that
the network is much more than that. The users have spoken. They
have told us what they want, and we are doing our best to provide
it. This is a network where EVERYONE'S opinion counts! In just a
few short months we have grown from just a few conferences to 21!
We now have over 40 boards in the network, with new ones
joining us every day. We invite you to call any participating board
and check us out. We think you will be pleasantly surprised!
We have two conferences that we require all boards to carry. They
are Stop the Presses!, which is the information base, open to all, and
User's Voice, the general chat base, which is also used for important
network announcements and user feedback. Hubs are asked to carry all
conferences, and nodes of course may choose to carry any and all
conferences in addition to Stop The Presses! and User's Voice.
We welcome any board to send an application. Please review the
list of conferences and the following rules and regulations and then
join us.
We handle FIDO technology, QWK format, Tnet, Rnet, and Cnet
transfer protocols. To date we have no one using PCRelay or Postlink,
but if it works for the System Operators involved, we have no objection.
Our rules are simple:
1. NO MEN in the Women ONLY conference.
NO ADULTS in the Teens ONLY conference. (13 - 17 only)
^^^^^^^^^^^^
2. NO messages will be rerouted or copied from the Women's ONLY
conference to ANY other conference on ANY board. NO exceptions.
3. Since it is vital that participants in the Women's ONLY conference
actually BE female, access to this conference cannot be granted
with only a simple callback verification door. One of the following
criteria must be met before any user can be allowed to read or post
in this conference:
A) Voice verification by the SysOp of the board on which the user
is to be given access.
(or)
B) SysOp personally knows the user to be female.
(or)
C) Verified/recommended by one of the females already in
the conference.
4. There are NO exceptions to Number 3! (Women's ONLY)
Women of all ages, backgrounds, outlooks, and opinions are welcome
in Women's Only. However, regardless of age, they are expected to
conduct themselves in a polite, sensible, and mature manner.
Those who cannot do so will be asked to leave the conference. We
welcome teens as long as they act like the young adults they are
becoming, not the children they no longer are.
5. NO Profanity, abusive language, bashing or personal attacks in ANY
conference. Don't use text like SH#%, F%#K, or anything similar.
It doesn't take that much imagination to figure these out.
Any violation of the Foul Language guideline will be cause for the
user to be removed from the network. Anyone who quotes the offending
message for reposting is just as guilty as the one who posts the
original and will be dealt with in the same manner. This may
sound tough, but we want to maintain a clean network for the users.
Any NODE or HUB who fails to help us with the removal of an
offending user could lose their privilege of echoing mail with
us.
6. At the present time, NO Handles are allowed except in RECOVERY,
where you can use an alias but it must sound and look like a real
name.
7. Common courtesy to all at all times.
8. The System Operators are responsible for ALL messages leaving
their board.
9. ANY board/SysOp found to go against any of the above rules will have
it's feed cut IMMEDIATELY and questions will be asked later and
a decision made. It will be up the the SysOp of the offending board
to handle the problem before allowed back on the network. We don't
have a lot of rules in this net but the few we do have are taken
seriously.
10. ANY conference being distributed across Networks MUST be approved by
the Zone Coordinator with the decision being made by the board.
11. QUOTING OF MESSAGES - When replying, please don't over quote. The
complete message you are replying to does not need to be reposted in
it's entirety OR line for line with an answer for each. Long Distance
charges are enough without having to relay the same words twice.
12. Please try to keep the conference on topic as much as possible. If
not, then all the conferences will look like chat conferences and
there will be no need for separate ones.
13. Network Tag lines will advertise the board that they come from and
not be offensive. It will also contain the WinCNet node number
assigned to the board.
14. ANSI messages are not allowed since some systems can't handle them
and we would prefer to keep the boards with us.
15. Private mail is not supported with so many different types of mail
transfer protocols.
16. Conference hosts are given freedom to run their conference
the way they see fit, as long as within the net guidelines. ALL
conference requests are given serious consideration and
conferences in this net exist because users asked for them!
17. Two conferences are mandatory for each and every board linked.
^^^^^^^^^
The Users Voice
Stop the Presses!
We strongly recommend that each board also takes Limited. This is
the Administrative conference where everything is discussed about
the net. The results will be posted in Stop the Presses! ONLY.
18. We believe that USERS ARE VIP'S!!!
That's it. If you can abide by those rules, we will be more than
happy to have you with us. At the moment we are not a large network,
but we do intend to be a happy family no matter how big or small.
